Our model & how we measure impact
We work closely with the local communities. The religious leaders and traditional authority, the local school staff, the youth, the parents – everyone has a sense of participation and collective ownership of the libraries and vision we have for the children. They are the primary source of our volunteers in each community, and the ones whose voices we hold dearly.
NIFEMI
Nifemi lived with her grandma, whom she called “Mama.” We had met Nifemi on the road while inviting children to our Hope Library in Summer 2022. Nifemi was a beautiful child, but you could see that she had grown to bear more burden and responsibility than most children her age (about 13) had ever borne or experienced. One day we surprised Nifemi at the
address she gave us. Once she saw us, her eyes lit up with joy and she ran to give us a hug, shy as she was. Her house was in one of the poorest, most unsanitary parts of the town, where she lived close to the refuse canal. Each day Nifemi came to the Hope Library, she sat with the books so quietly and closely to her heart. This Hope Library, and all of us, had given her a place to find some rest for her heart, a place where she could be free to be a child, a place where she could make friends and just read, a place where we had brought colours and beautiful little things to help her find new possibilities and new
dreams.

Thousands of communities do not have access to libraries in rural communities of Sub-Saharan Africa. We are taking libraries to the children there, one community and one library at a time. We work towards ensuring that children in resource-poor communities may access the simplest yet most powerful things: books, literacy, and dreams.
